Rasam is a South Indian dish, a type of thin soup with a sour taste, based on tamarind fruit juice (in fact, the Tamil word "rasam" literally means "juice") with the addition of lentils and spices. It can also be eaten with plain cooked rice or drunk as an aromatic soup.
Nowadays, rasam comes in many varieties, from the traditional lemon and tomato rasam to the more adventurous garlic rasam and even pineapple rasam.
