Kokum (Garcinia indica), also known as Jungle Fruit, is a dark colored dried fruit with curled edges. The fruits are often split in half and dried so that the dried seeds are visible in their chambers. When added to food, it imparts a pink to purple color and a sweet and sour flavor similar to tamarind.

Garcinia indica or kokum is a fruit tree with culinary, pharmaceutical and industrial uses. The outer skin of the fruit is dried in the sun to make Kokam/Kokum. It is used as a slightly acidic spice that gives it a specific flavor and dark red color.

In India (especially in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa) Kokum is used to prepare some types of dal, drinks or kadhi.
